Alexandria, Virginia, Housing Rising Two Percent Monthly, Say Realtors

Historical Alexandria, Virginia, centuries later, is still the place to be near Washington, D.C. "Alexandria is a vibrant community, meeting a variety of housing needs," says Realtor John F. Sullivan. "Price appreciation continues at a rate of almost 2 percent per month, thanks to low inventory and low interest rates. Combine these factors with a projection of an increase in population for the region of over two million by 2025, and you can understand why demand for housing will continue to push prices higher." Explains Realtor Lamanthia Barfield, "Alexandria is right across the Woodrow Wilson Bridge for those traveling to, and from Maryland. Alexandria Old Town is right on the water. Take a lunchtime and dinner cruise on the Dandy or the Spirt of Alexandria. The Cherry Blossom river boat is great for weddings. Old Town Alexandria is famous for the Torpedo Factory which is now a great place to shop on the water. Alexandria is just minutes to FT Belvoir, the Pentagon, FT Myer, Bolling AFB, and the Alexandria Old Town area has upscale housing near City Hall and the Court House. Attractive condos are being built throughout the city. Crystal City and the Pentagon are just 15 minutes away. Hotels, government offices, and Washington, D.C. are 15-20 minutes away. Lots are possible to find if you are looking to build and customize your home. The new Patent and Trade Office is next to new luxury condos. Easy access to bus and subway, leave your car at home." "The city of Alexandria is located inside the Beltway (I-495)," says Realtor Nabila Salame. "It is surrounded by DC in the north, Arlington County in the south, Fairfax County from the west, and the Potomac River in the east. Salame says, "Old Town Alexandria has a history as a great place to live and work, with its historic buildings and homes plus shops, and restaurants. Some of its historic buildings are, like the Gadsby"s Tavern, Carlyle House, and the George Washington Masonic National Memorial Temple, modeled after the ancient lighthouse at Alexandria, Egypt. The waterfront community of Old Town Alexandria offers a variety of cultural activities, great schools, theaters, and lots of job opportunities. Alexandria City saw 694 layoffs occur during October and November. Despite the decline in employment, the average monthly unemployment rate fell from 2.2 percent during the third quarter, to 1.9 percent in the first two months of the fourth quarter. Despite the job losses, the labor market remains relatively strong, leaving record low mortgage rates to drive home sales." Click here to view current Market Conditions in your location.
