Is Homebuilder.com Closing?

An iconoclastic Web site with an unprintable URL has published the following internal memo, allegedly sent to about 60 employees at Homebuilder.com. The lay-off date is April 1, 2001. "Notice of Layoff -- This is to notify you that you will be laid-off as part of a group layoff and plant closing(Dallas, TX). This layoff is permanent." Is this an early April Fools" joke, or is Homebuilder.com really going out of business? Could it be consolidating operations to move to Homestore"s California headquarters? No answers were available despite repeated attempts to reach Homestore and Homebuilder.com spokespersons.
